A project I worked on as an employee of Nu Skin, Beauty Empowered is an app to help customers easily navigate Nu Skin's extensive product portfolio to find the products that will help resolve their specific skin concerns.

Nu Skin carries a wide variety of skincare products, all designed to address specific skin concerns that customers may have. It's currently difficult for customers to find the products they need to address the specific skin concerns they have. This project is built to help customers have a better complete experience with Nu Skin products; helping them find the right products to get the results they hope for.
According to studies performed by Nu Skin, the best way to promote healthy skin is not to use just one product, but to follow a multi-step skincare regimen. The products used in a skincare regimen can be adjusted to address specific concerns, but the steps of the regimen remain the same: Cleanse, Tone, Treat, and Moisturize.
To help customers achieve the healthiest skin possible, we explored ways to introduce the skincare regimen, and point them towards products that will address their individual skin concerns.
I worked with the product development teams to categorize NuSkin's skincare products according to their function. This was a break from NuSkin's typical categorization, where they group products by brand or by product line. We organized the products according to their step in the regimen process, and identified any special concerns they were designed to address.
We devised a series of questions to identify customers' specific skin concerns and organized the questions into a rough app structure. Based on their answers, we are able to make a personalized recommendation for products that will address their skin concerns.
Using the series of questions we'd come up with, I put together a quick wireframe. Once I'd reviewed the user flow with the project stakeholders, I cleaned up the styling and put together a simple Invision prototype that we could use to test the concept with users.
We observed 5 customers while they used prototype. Notes were made on their body language and expressions throughout their time testing. After completing the journey, they were asked for their feedback and thoughts.
Along with a few usability issues, the users showed us that parts of the journey seemed to get monotonous; answering an endless stream of questions was tough without any reward.
We decided to re-arrange a few sections of the app in order to break up the questions and keep customers more engaged.
We performed one more round of quick testing and found the customer journey was much smoother. I went ahead and worked with our marketing team to finalize the look and feel of the app and began working with developers to get it built. This project has recently been released and is helping customers across the globe find the best products for their skincare needs. Try it out here.
